RS: What is the breakdown of capex on new sats?

Last Loral conf. call BLS said that Loral would have only $100 million cash by YE2001 (and that, I believe, does not factor in the cost of any customer penalties / cost of refurbishing ChinaSat-8 which could be upwards of $40 million). That doesn't leave much room for error, let alone stock buy backs (unless capex can be diverted). I don't know if BLS' projections included any payments / revs from G*.

Also, the $250 million insurance proceeds belongs to Satmex, not Loral, right? If so, Loral can't use that money for stock buybacks since it isn't theirs. In that case, using the money for a Loral-built sat would be good for Loral.

It's truly amazing, imo, that BLS hasn't been shoved out of the door by some large holder (clearly the BOD won't do it). His mismanagement of Loral / G* is now legendary. He was at the forefront of 2-way data with C*, yet three years later he still has NO PARTNERS and most of the logical deep-pocketed potential partners have already aligned themselves elsewhere.
