We just had our tank topped off this morning. It only took 50 gallons, and the tank holds 550, so I was worried over nothing. Last year we only burned 400. It cost $1.70 a gallon, last year it was $1, this summer $1.40. We use it all year because the water heater runs on oil. Northern Va.

That is a fair sized jump, but not too bad (i.e. not a disaster) if your home is pretty tight and well insulated. I'm thinking there is a lot more smoke to this than fire. You might want to get those spare sweaters out though. -g-

john -

ice i got a letter from my oil company in boston which guarantees i will not pay more then 1.49 for oil this winter. last year i payed 84 cents, if the shortages were that great i`m sure i would not have received this letter. regards john

If there is a severe heating oil shortage, I'm sure the letter is correct, and there won't be any oil that you can pay 1.49 for. OTOH, there is unlikely to be a shortage of letters, so you probably can get them free on request, saying anything you want to specify. -g-
