<< What you don't realise is that free software is where it all came from. >>

Sure I do. I bought my first IBM XT back in 1985 and I went through piles and piles of free software. It was 99.9% crap. The computer was practically useless until I bought some actually usable software from Microsoft. Back then I searched and searched, but the free software I was able to obtain was not worth the floppy it came on.

You have to pay for good software because someone has to spend time creating it. If there are certain factions of the computing world that want to use crappy software for free, that's fine. I will continue paying for good software and I guarantee that the BEST software will always be provided by a company that charges for it. You're living in a land of delusion if you believe otherwise.

One more comment for all of you SUNW fans out there. The stock market always overshoots fair value. The market in the long run is driven by fundamentals and in the short run by greed, fear, momentum, short term perspective, etc. Right now the market is moving the price of SUNW to an extremely overpriced valuation and the price of MSFT is undervalued.

When the momentum changes the stocks will return to fair value (ie. MSFT $85 and SUNW $70).

At this time, a trailing PE of 31 for MSFT is unreasonably low and a PE of 101 is outrageously high for SUNW.

IMO, Dave
