Santa Clara, California, Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Intel Corp., the world's biggest computer chipmaker, lowered prices on some of its low-end Pentium III chips on Sunday, the Wall Street Journal reported in its ''Heard on the Street'' column online.

Intel cut prices in some cases by as much as 26 percent, the paper said, citing unidentified Intel executives. The Santa Clara, California-based company last lowered prices across the board on Aug. 27, the paper said.

Intel is trying to regain market share lost to rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc., the paper said, citing U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray analyst Ashok Kumar. In response, Advanced Micro lowered prices on its Athlon chips starting today, the paper said, citing unidentified company executives. Some of the price cuts were as much as 46 percent, the paper said.

Advanced Micro could be hurt more by a price war because its chips are more expensive to make than Intel's, the paper said, citing MicroDesign Resources analyst Kevin Krewell. (WSJ 10/17) For the dowjones.com Web site, including stories from the Wall Street Journal, see {DOWJ

"But I have to say that if terms like "blind, biased and drowsy" was a cause for suspension, Monty and Paul would be off this thread long time ago. Mani"

Stop the name-calling or post elsewhere?

As for who was blind, biased and drowsy, AMD's price makes that a touchy issue. Maybe no one -- just unlucky. But certainly not Monty, who called it like it is (and it sure is today).
