But in 1987 it looks as if it had a terrific drop, along with the general markets.

I may start accumulating some AMAT just to get a point of reference, realizing that I might see it lower. A really bad recession could cut earnings, too. And tax selling could hurt the stock price. But at some point it would be an excellent investment, and can't be put in the same class with dot.coms, money-losing techs, or even something as easily imitable as Dell.

1997-98:
54 3/16 to 21 9/16 = -60.21%

This Time thus far:
115 to 44 15/16 = -60.92%

Rather than looking just at the price drop, I suggest you look at P/S range and P/S range relative to P/S of the SMH (you'll have to build the latter).
