Thread,

Interesting to see how stock has fallen in face of good news. AMD has a clear 200MHz lead in the highest volume desktop segment and is likely to have 333MHz lead before P4 appears - even P4 will not stop AMD from gaining market share because of the expected slow ramp. Talk about confused market!

I also find the talk about Flash alone being worth $20 somewhat ironic since I have been making a case for spinning off flash for the last year or more and many players felt the need to hang on to flash.

AMD stockholders could have benefitted dramatically if AMD spun off FLASH during the last year - it is possibly the single bold strategic move that will improve the company's valuation and make the CPU side stronger.
The issue of stock buyback is also very appropriate - both as a good use of money and as a confidence building move. It is downright ridiculous for this company to be valued where it is.

If anyone feels this way please feel free to write a letter to AMD management.

Chuck

P.S.: CY had great earnings and guidance and still being killed. So, it is just not AMD but I don't believe there is another major semiconductor company with a PE of less than 8.

Chuck, re:<Did your system cost $399 or $499 or $599? If
not, we are not talking about the same target market here.>

There are many Duron systems being sold in that price range (<$600)
in the white box market. Here's some comparisons:

Startech Computers: all have 64M, 10G HD, 52X CD
Celeron (32M,7.5G, -$70)
Duron-32M TNT2 graphics 810e unified graphics
500 MHz $429
533 MHz $439
566 MHz $449
600 MHz $489 $459
650 MHz $509 $469 (633 MHz)
700 MHz $529
750 MHz $579

CompCity: All with MSI mobo, 64M, 7.5G, 8MB SIS AGP,48X CD, modem
Duron Celeron
600 MHz $529 $525
650 MHz $539 $559 (667 MHz)
700 MHz $569 na

ComLogic: All with 32M, 10.8G, S3 4MB AGP, 48X CD, modem
Duron Celeron
600 MHz $479 $469 ($489 633 MHz)
650 MHz $499 $505 (667 MHz)
700 MHz $519

Micro City: 64M, 20G, 52X, i810 or unknown 4M AGP video
Duron Celeron
600 MHz $459 $475
633 MHz $499
667 MHz $519
700 MHz $499

Its interesting that even in this price range, half the
Celeron systems use external graphics. NONE of them use the
i815 chipset, those motherboards are too expensive.
Apparently, customers don't like being stuck with i810 video forever.

Chuck it costs between $500 and $600. However that did not include the add in card which I bought seperately. It also did not include a monitor.
