Carl, re:There is no way on God's green earth that a TeamDDR member would tell you something like that. No way, no how. Anyone who has been following the prolific design effort on DDR would be aware that DDR was designed to go to 4 DIMMs on 4-layer motherboards. The reasons for going to 6 layer boards would be: (1) Escape problems getting routes out of the memory controller chip. (2) Time to market. (3) Some other component on the board (i.e. dual CPUs, etc.)

I'm not sure those are the only reasons. For example, there may be electrical reasons to use stripline rather than microstrip. (Note the Hyundai 760 MB appears to be six layer). Maybe you've seen spec's with stackups?

BTW, I personally believe that Tenchusatsu is a straight shooter. If he states an opinion and later finds contradictory info, he's the first to share it.

Carl, you used to have great things to say engineering-wise (in the midst of all the FUD you like to spread). But lately, you seem more obsessed with personal attacks than anything else.

I think it should have been enough satisfaction for you to see me leave the pro-Rambus camp. But after the posts I've seen from you in the past few days, I've come to see your true colors. You not only want to see RDRAM "dead dead dead," but you also want to see its former supporters humiliated, dragged through the mud, and discredited for the rest of their lives. And you (and a few others on this thread) take some sick pleasure in doing so.

I'm not saying that the pro-Rambus camp is any better. In fact, most of them could stand a real reality check. But that makes your actions no less excusable. In fact, I'll bet you're one of the reasons why the pro-Rambus camp is so fanatical these days.

Now, if you don't mind, let's cut the crap and go back to talking about real issues, such as Micron's plans for eCache, or what we can expect for DDR-II, or whether Rambus is successful (or justified) in suing for DDR royalties.

Tenchusatsu

P.S. - I know what the TeamDDR representative told me. It is very possible that he might have given me an incorrect answer, given that his job was to run a demo, not necessarily to be an omniscient source of DDR info. Not everyone is expected to know the details 100%. Not even you, Carl.
