re: "BTW, AMD's FAB 25 & FAB 30 together will be able to output 10+ million chips per quarter next year."

That's if the rules of the game don't change. Little things like larger on chip cache can force a big reduction in that output. Plus if AMD gets stuck selling the bulk of the low end at sub $50 and they have to keep cutting their big names super deals to keep them on the higher end stuff they may never get out of the funk. Yes their EPS this quarter was very good, but can they sustain it as the competition looks to change the rules.

Andrew - Re: "BTW, AMD's FAB 25 & FAB 30 together will be able to output 10+ million chips per quarter next year. "

No kidding?

Let's see....AMD hits 10 million/quarter next year.

Let's assume worst case - VERY WORST CASE - that Intel's CPU sales remain FLAT at today's levels - 34 million/quarter.

Now...for some math:

10/(10+34) = 22.7%

My my - 22.7% !!!!

AMD will fall short of their 30% Market Share goal - and that assumes Intel sells no more CPUs than they are today !!

Andrew - DO YOU SEE A PROBLEM for AMD HERE ??

Oh...if Intel builds and brings on line those additional 6 fabs, you might expect Intel's CPU sales to increase "ever so slightly" from today's 34 million/quarter.

Andrew - DO YOU SEE AN EVEN BIGGER PROBLEM for AMD HERE ??

Paul

Andrew - Re: "In the spring, the INTC/AMD chip lineup will be: P4 1.4 Ghz+ Athlon 1.2 to 1.5 DDR"

In the spring, Intel seems to have strongly hinted they will have the Pentium 4 at 1.7 GHz.

1.7 GHz, Andrew.

1.7 GHz.
