I think the commentator on the PBS show considered what the entire package would cost under both Gore and Bush's programs. This included the cost of reduced taxes for individuals and government spending for programs.

I wondered if anyone caught the amount or watched the show because I didn't hear the entire commentary, but I believe the point of the commentator was that Bush would not spend the government surplus to alleviate the deficit. Or he would not spend as much as Gore.

The cost of Gore's government programs and tax cuts were less than Bush's but which program would be best for you would depend upon your circumstances. For instance, if you had 7 kids, you would get income-tax relief now from the Bush package, but if you sent your 7 kids to college you would get a greater benefit from the Gore package, according to the commentator. They looked at many examples.

Gore and Bush's programs are very different but it seems like it is very difficult to find out which program would be best for you. Either an accountant or a tax expert had to look through Gore's 190 page document to see the effect it would have on a single mother with three children.

I have no idea which program would be better for me, but I am interested in the health of the economy and the stock market.
