Well, that was a bad closing. Lost about $3 on less than 200,000 shares in the last 10 minutes, and lost close to another $2 on about 200,000 shares in the 10 minutes before that. Someone wanted to take Sandisk down before earnings.

I think that the official estimates after the last CC were raised to .28 or .29. However, if all Sandisk does is meet those, we will go down tomorrow. They made, what was it, .33 last Q, I think it was, and EH said that they would have more capacity which was entirely sold out already, although they also guided to lower royalty revenue, down to $17m from $21m. But they qualified that by saying it was a minimum. If I recall correctly, optimistic people on this board were looking for more like .40 (or even more) for this quarter back in July. My own sense is that if they don't do at least .35 or .36, the stock will sell off again tomorrow.

But then, SST posted great numbers and has only gone down since, as the John Joseph's of the world looking for a cyclical downturn next year have ruled the trading roost. It may not matter what they post or say, if those people are still in charge on the trading curb. Even a number in the mid-40s may just be good for a boost back to the low 60s, with people then selling into the strength. And that may be what the sell-off today was about, keeping the stock weak through and after this report. It certainly wasn't on all that much volume.

I hope Eli addresses the segmentation of the chip and flash sectors in the CC in greater detail than he did last time. Everyone seems to need an education, so that people don't think that, e.g., Intel and AMD (not to mention smaller companies that are more frequently mentioned on this board), are Sandisk competitors just because they make a kind of flash.

Good luck everyone,
Sam

EDIT: Well, the release came out as I was typing, that was fast. .35 beats the official estimates, but it doesn't blow out my own expectations, as the last quarter did. Forward guidance in the CC will be very important for what the stock does tomorrow and Friday, as will general market psychology.
