The presidency isn't a popularity contest......otherwise Nixon would have lost every time. Thank god, people look at abilities first, personality last when picking a president. Otherwise, we'd have as prez Jay Leno!..........look we all know Gore's shortcomings but the GOP put up the worst candidate possible to run against him. Had they chosen McCain there would be no suspense on Nov7th......but with a flawed primary system the odds were stacked against Mccain. Bush says he's not a Washington insider and that's so ridiculous. His father has been in Washington for the last 30 years and will be right by his side on every meeting, issue or debate........get real!

Michael,

By this point in the campaign, it seems all is reduced to rhetoric, insult, and repetition; a good time to go out and enjoy 3D. I watched all three debates; Bush is not a good debater ahd he missed a lot of chances to hurt Gore, but Gore was so unlikable and rude, he gave up any edge he could have gained from his verbal facility. I thought they were both terrible, frankly.

Some show last night was playing the clip of Gore's moving over into Bush's territory very close and staring at him. Do you know what preceded that action? It seemed so totally bizarre, an eerily abnormal thing to do. I've seen people who are mentally disturbed make that type of invasive movement- they have no concept of private space. It struck me as very inappropriate. I'm sure there was some REASON he did it- I just didn't get it.

Then that equally odd, adolescent, "My turn!" and his interrupting and starting to tell Lehrer that he was doing his job wrong. Oh- and then when Bush mentioned his teenage girls in passing and Gore got up and said- I have four children and they're all HERE!- well, I cracked up. It was so --- GORE. Nyah nyah. I win!!!
He struck me as just--- WEIRD.
Not that Bush's response about world peace to the woman who asked about taxes was exactly logical. I think he pressed the wrong Automatic response button.

A couple of weeks ago there was a story somewhere that one of Gore's daughters told earlier in the campaign about how, if the family were watching a movie and someone got up and left the room, her father would rewind the movie and make everyone watch from the beginning again. PErhaps the story is apocryphal.
At the time, I thought that sounded VERY controlling and peculiar and I hoped she was kidding. But after watching him in the debates, it could be true.

I am so thoroughly disgusted and dismayed by it all. I'll vote as close to the issues I care about as I can, and forget the men.
