Although I live in upstate NY, my Father lived for many years in Bethesda. While there for a visit and shortly after the riots, he took me down for a tour of the burned out area. The sad part was that it was many years before business felt secure enough to rebuild. As a result the neighborhoods were denied local shopping for some time. I viewed it as opportunism triggered by presidential speeches.
The die had already been cast for changes and they would have developed without the riots and with less public resentment and anger.
