This is exactly why Intel and Barrett are backtracking on Rambus...The whole industry, especially Intels partners, blame Intel for bringing the Rambus plague upon them.
They will not easily forget..
OTOH, Intel is trying to weasel out of the blame by helping 3rd party chipset makers develop alternative ram solutions and developing their own solutions.
Even then, Rambus is suing for DDR and claims royalties on SDRAM to boot. So basically by laying down with Rambus, Intel has brought a lot of grief on it's partners...who have to sign or be sued.
SOme when Intel wants to lead the industry to new standards, who the heck is going to listen?
On the plus side this will spur new RAM technology...

Rambus is a self made gorilla via their patents. Intel is the first big customer.
