I do not argue with your assertion that the accumulation of wealth changes one's agenda. Thus, it does not surprise me that the Republicans are profiting from the last six years of economic boom times, besides profiting from the misdeeds of Clinton. Also benefiting Bush is a general mood that "eight years of Clinton is long enough." Actually, I'm somewhat amazed that Gore is hanging as close as he is. Lest we not forget, only one VP (George Sr.) since Martin Van Buren succeeded in winning the top job.

All that said, two factors bother me more than any others should the Repubs gain control of the White House and retain control of the Congress: (1) The lack of what might be described as GOP altruism, i.e., "We've made our money; screw everyone else who isn't as fortunate"; (2) the vindictiveness of many Republican leaders in Congress, i.e., Armey, Delay, Lott.
