WTF are you babbling about? Last time I checked, Israelis are taking Palestinians' land, more and more of it as time passes by. And behaving rather ungraciously about it.

Haim, i certainly agree with your view of Arab attitudes toward the West...i have visited the ME myself, and as an Austrian got some interesting insights (Austria is held in high regard in the Arab world, for not exactly flattering reasons). i also tend to think that the ruling elites of the various sheikhdoms that have arranged themselves with the West could easily be overthrown one day...interestingly, in spite of high oil prices, most ME economies remain sluggish and i'd guess that the rift between the leaders and the populace keeps growing. while any future revolutionary populist governments would probably also arrange themselves eventually, the potential for upheaval is great.

this is why i asked whether Arafat is really in control...i can imagine that the Palestinians at large regard his policies as having failed.

one wonders how this tinderbox will ever be pacified in fact...

do you know Huntington's 'Clash of Civilizations'? very interesting theory that argues that future wars will all be fought along cultural/religious fault-lines post cold war. so far that's definitely true, see also Yugoslavia.
