Sounds very good, but if one is in the 39.6% tax bracket, the choices are not so clear. Even if one has long-term rates of 20%, you would need to be certain that AMAT would fall at least that much, assuming you wanted to jump back in and be ahead of the game. In my experience, I admittedly do not know where AMAT is headed in the next few days or weeks or months, but have a fairly good(understatement) idea of where it is headed over the coming years. That is why my only strategy is to but undervalued companies and hold. In times like these though, this stratgy can be painful as I am sure numerous others can attest.
