Clearly it can be done. After all, laptops don't have fans.

Edit: ... and neither did a lot of tube equipment, which generated MUCH more heat.

JC - you are just too far down on the hardware pecking order. My dual-processor CPQ workstation has 3 fan levels - off, low and high - gated by the internal temperature. Also if the box gets too hot, even on high, it sends a nice message to you asking to be shut down. If you ignore that, it will eventually shut down (and power down) on its own.

I almost never hear the fan running.
