Dave, uhhh, you forgot about Jerry getting rather LARGE option grants?

Believe me, the most lucrative decision for him is to get the share price up (in a sustainable way, not a short term pop).

Share Care...

I have no doubt that it will be good AMD. The question is will it be good for the STOCK. I doubt it. Still in Intel's shadow.

AMD is perceived by the 'great powers' as in Intel's shadow because they don't have Intel's reputation as a sure thing earnings machine. That perception takes time to change. If AMD continues to deliver it will earn it's way out of Intel's shadow. Intel seems to have far more problems right now than AMD. It is Intel that is missing estimates and delivery dates. It is Intel that has lost focus. They have failed to execute to analyst's expectations. Sooner or later if that persists they will lose their cachet as the 'sure thing'. This is similar to what just happened to MSFT. When you take on the heavyweight champ as AMD has dared to do you have to knock him out to win. It's hard to win on points.

Especially when AMD loses the speed lead. That will hurt share price further.

Shareholders don't care about headlines such as who has the speed lead. They care about profits and profit visibility. The box market is telling you that AMD is capturing share. If their SMP solutions get legs they will establish a foothold in the larger segment of the CPU market...servers. AMD should address two things right now and neither involve an ad campaign. They should make sure they have the infrastructure (mobos, flexible fab capacity, chip set support) for their MP's and they should solve the Multi processor problem. The latter is currently being addressed with the new chip set. The mobo/chipset support is starting to come as the products gain share in the market. Fab capacity is a longer term problem. I would rather have AMD operating a full capacity with some under supply than have Intel's current dilemma of building capacity for a market that may not materialize. In fact, this is a major concern among analysts short term about Intel.

I'm convinced Jerry doesn't give a crap about share price. I think he's trying to make as much money for the company as possible,

Thank God! Most companies are destroyed by over concern about today's share price. It is the CEO's job to maximize financial performance with the appropriate risk. Sooner or later, bottom line performance and consistency of performance translates to higher P/E's. This is what earnings visibility is all about.

so he gets big fat bonuses.

I hope he is well rewarded if the company performs. He should be.

That is the most lucrative decision for him.

And in the end, the most lucrative decision for all of us...

You have every reason to fear P4.
P4 will be hyped, Mhz will be hyped and what Intel will do to cover the lower IPC of the P4 is when they launch 1.4-1.5 they will start to hype 1.7-2.0 Ghz AT THE SAME TIME...
If AMD doesn't have a plan to combat this the press will buy it....they love "spin".
AMD is good to go in Q1 and Q2 but when do investors get squirrly about after then? I think they are already getting a little squirrely.
