Hyperchip - cool website! Now if their technology is half as good, they just might be onto something.

But let me clarify my position on terabit hype.

I do not believe the terabit hype, today. I do expect to see scalable core routers from several vendors hitting the market in the next few quarters (Avici, Pluris, IronBridge, maybe Cisco, Charlotte's Web, and maybe a new Nexabit).

These platforms will be configured for hundreds of gigabits, not terabits. 320-640 Gbps (32 to 64 x OC-192) is not out of the question.

However, large network operators are demanding terabit scalability. Some are saying they will need to route a terabit in 12 - 18 months. And with optical bandwidth growing at the rate it is, petabit networking is certainly in the range of expectation in 3-5 years.

What does this have to do with Juniper? Well, they have executed flawlessly so far, but all they had to do was beat Cisco. Now they are going to have start-up competition at the very high-end. IMHO, Juniper needs to come up with a credible scalability story, or buy Procket Networks, before someone else does.
