Jay my brother and i did a comparative study on his costs and my costs on basic insurance premiums car house , health, pharmaceutical, education. He too bitched severely until we did this.

After that his biggest grievance lay in the abuse of your system. My set costs were way above his. He too has this strong desire to come to the US but he had problems at the time he could afford to leave needed to establish a business here. His dream was to live in San Francisco his favorite place. It would be a nightmare now as costs of housing in Winnipeg have not increased and the Canadian dollar has decreased on conversion his residence in SF would amount to a shade better than a cardboard box.

Our health care here is on its way to being very very expensive . It is excellent in my mind providing you have private providers, though we are turning more to HMO designs due to costs.

Your populous is so darn small and you nation so big the keep up national health care, roads, museums, education, etc etc is huge on a per person base in comparison to ours here. If we had your tax structure and our head count our roads could be solid gold. Your National Park system is outstanding.

PS better he be open about his preference than live in misery the rest of his life.

Those numbers are close for my personal income, and yes they are assuming no deductions

Jay are you talking 47 as a marginal rate or average rate?

I'm in a 33% marginal rate but it's 15% up to a certain point, then 28% up to a certain point and then 33%. Take out deductions and it drops me back down.....then add in 7% for state. When I count it all up it amounts to 25% average including social security which is 15% for self employed.

Then there are all those other taxes.....5% sales, 6% real estate and personal property tax. Then the biggest tax which is the cost of keeping all the records and paying the accountant since no wage earner can possibly keep up with the changes in the tax code. Our tax code is a full employment act for accountants and congressmen.
