However you want to depict these cultures and societies
and interpret their beliefs and history....but they won't be converting to your form of ritual or dogma, and and form of worship anytime soon .
That is a given.
That there are different forms of Buddhism in Japan, is
a non-event. Buddhist freely use and enter each others
temples when they travel from country to country.

So this is nearing 3 1/2 bil people that will choose to continue to evolve in ways of spiritual growth other than Christianity.... or maybe you would rather try to understand one another ? I didn't include the 1 bil Moslems....

You are still trying to associate the practice of Buddhism
with the aggressions of past centuries of Japan, China, and Southest Asia? Maybe you would like to conjure up a picture of what these societies and cultures would have been with an alternative history , had the teachings of Buddhism
never reached them ?

Warrior Monks? Yes there have been warrior monks
wherever the rulers, tyrants, corrupt politicians and
aggressors , needed to be challenged and the poor defended.
Jesus was a warrior monk too, in the sense he never wavered from his truth and defied the authorities and powers tht be.

You do remember the 15 monks in Vietnam that sacrificed themselves to draw attention to our aggression and support of corrupt regimes in their Country:
gs.cdnow.com

They were a greater thorn in our side than
history remembers. And we had no part in the
death and destruction of 2mil Vietnmese or in supporting
Pol Pot for all those years, supplying him with arms, even his representation to the United Nations ?

I for one am extremely pleased to know that
there are giant
bronze statues of Buddha all
throughout Japan and Asia , and probably soon to return in China in another few generations(only a matter of time.)
And it will be for the better for the human race when that occurs.
These societies with Buddhism at their core ,
now are the most peacful and crime~free in the world in present day.

That they are Aetheists and Animists? You would not
learn from the study of animals or use them as metaphor
"Jesus the Lamb" etc? Anything to undermine what you don't understand.
But don't be mislead that Buddhist and Hindus are poor ignorant godless peoples , they are producing the most advanced and educated people on the planet , as you well know professor.

What a Buddhist seek within themselves
are as valid as anything you might seek.
And the story is far from over, how the world
will progress.

I wouldn't underestimate the
Truths that were taught by a great Master,
who is still venerated today far and wide and who's teachings thrive today
2500 years later.

That must say
something of what it
is that is truely offered.

Maybe Truth perhaps?
