Well, since it has been a long time since 1974, and I have had forever to meditate upon the chain of events, so I cannot state for sure that this was my line thinking at the time.

What I tell you now is from today's perspective, looking back. I recall not really understanding what the floor traders told me when I was 21, all their good and free advice. But I do remember that is what they said. That goes for all the events also. The biggest impression that was made on me in the episodes before that, was the glint in the peoples' eyes when they talked about sugar, gold, and real estate. It was a surreal kind of belief that they had, and this has not changed with time, for this latest mania.

It is interesting that after the long journey, it only makes sense at the end, and never at the time.

You also have to see this in a different cultural context. Chinese children are exposed to and immersed in their parents' business as kids, and perhaps this is why I observed more than most of my North American peers.
