I said: Actually I had always thought the reasoning behind a graduated tax was to provide a break for lower income earners

Definitely not

Then later you say:

Through the liberal control the masses demanded ever more in graduated tax in what they thought would be a way to reduce the taxes paid by the lower half.

Aren't you saying the same thing I said above? Remember I'm simply trying to understand what was the thinking behind a graduated tax. If I'm incorrect that that was the reasoning how come your explanation sounds a lot like mine? Or am I missing some significant point.

BTW my friend wasn't stating what he believed to be right, but what he was taught was the reasoning behind the graduated tax. You seem to lose these subtleties when you are on a rant about the socialistic tendencies of the government. If you go back to my original post I stated and still state that the graduated tax is unfair, but that doesn't stop me from wondering what the reasoning behind it is.

All begins with an intent.
So the purpose starts out as right and there of Clinton moved to what he called town house meetings which we don’t hear much of anymore. Taking government out of the hands of government and putting it into the hands of the people. This sold big time to the populous but it did not happen.

In perfect society which has to be only theoretically obtainable all on paper can work . There are no private interests on paper.
The paper becomes mush when out start on a head count and cause and affect base.

The continued ignorance of man is what boggles me. You can’t get anything constructive done because we abort and contort the written word

The complexity of the law. Ray in FC forum was showing how Cisco had utilized pooling of interest to numerical enhance their financial position. It is becoming more difficult to get CPA’s as there are few that want to deal with new rulings, more insurance to protect self in order for us to tally figures. It almost amounts to where do we enter minus one so it looks like plus ten. Damn I forgot I could that and damn I should not of done that.

I have spewed enough I am not acting but reacting by venting. . The courageous are deemed radicals as laws simplified for the benefits of future effects present adversely, in conclusion from clay tablets to paper it is very possible every great nation who flourished has faltered from the written word forgetting the moral clause.

How does one change what is to create a more beneficial future?

The budget deficit and the surplus was created by two factors: taxes on the top 1% and reductions of military spending

Don't you think the Reagan era spending created the trillion dollar deficit in the early 1980's that we still pay for today? This nonsense of getting a 600 ship Navy was absurb and the money could have been better put to use elsewhere. Also the S&P bailout cost billions and didn't help the deficit either.
