Continue on the industry trade rags... Network Computing and eWeek both ahve very suspiciously similar (in content and timing) editorials that say "Novell: Time to Sell" and "Novell for sale".

Although the editorials seem orchestrated, I would agree that I cant see how Novell can put this event for much longer. The perception in the industry is that Novell will never recover from is "ball and chain" problem of not having what it takes to market their superior technologies. We all know that Novell management has tried and tried and tried to solve the marketing problem.

The effort to get Novell out of this hole of industry obscurity is too deep even if Novell were somehow able to bridge is corporate culture of timidness and naive attitudes based on "if we ahve a better mouse-trap - th eindustry will eventually realize it".

It would be such a great loss to the entire computer industry if Novell's technology should wither on the vine into the annals of computer history. Novell's incredible Directory Services (and DS enabled technologies) and its NetWare OS should be handed to an industry player that has the marketing clout to propel these technologies. IBM has always been a natural in my mind but I still don't think enough key players in IBM realize the gems that Novell has.

I think Oracle does know but its breadth of marketing experience (i.e. they are highly focused on industry positioning) to be as effective as an IBM would to sell Novell technologies into the fortune 1000 customers. I still wouldnt be sad to see Oracle acquire Novell though - its much better than Novell going it alone.

I hope CA is not being contemplated, their reputation of being the pimp of the industry would leave Novell's technology lost within CA's coral of "also-ran" solutions.

Regardless of the potential buyer, I would reluctantly agree that the time has come for Novell to be sold for the sake of the survival of Novell's great technology. The leadership on Novell's solutions must be taken out of Utah and placed with an industry player that can catapult a great story into the industry press and industry shops.

The writing is on the wall - jsut get it done!

My lil 'ol opinions!

Toy

Hello Dieter,

> Yesterday someone posted an article regarding Oracle
> quitting support for Novell's Netware.
> Can you comment on this? Thank you. Dieter

I have seen several articles now that are saying this ... but I have not seen an official announcement from either Novell or Oracle ... so there is nothing else that I can offer at this time.

I'll keep my eyes open ...
