<<Reagan-Bush also presided over an over-heated economy which led to a recession and enormous debt. Reagan-Bush could never take in enough taxes to pay for their spending so debt mounted. Bush's "read my lips" reversal was due to his realisation that new revenue had to be taken in to pay for "voodoo trickle down economics" which made some rich but drained the government coffers and removed the safety net. It also gave us goodies like homeless people by cutting mental health services. Furthermore, their fiscally irresponsible S+L debacle (caused by Reagan signing the Garns-St Germaine Act) alone gave us a trillion dollars in new debt. All part of their "unleashing the private sector" because "we trust you" and the ones they unleashed and trusted (their own cronies) turned out to be white collar criminals. Expect some of the same if Bush gets elected. Also expect more unemployment, more poverty and more racial tension. The market will not be where I'd put my money during a Bush Administration. Higher interest rates mean bonds, gold, whatever. Maybe oil stocks because they will be reaping continued windfalls. >>

Many Democrats were implicated in the S& L fiasco. Four of the Keating five were democrats. Reagan took office during the depths of a great recession. "American Spirits" were at
a low. Interest rates approached 20%. When Clinton took office the economy was in good shape and American business was once again competitive in world markets. The threat from Communism had greatly diminished.
