Joe: I went to the SS Web site and admired the picture of LBJ at the bottom. The following information was pulled direct from the SS Web site. All I can say is that if American's seniors-to-be wish to start drawing their money at age 70, then George Bush is their man. If America's seniors want a SS plan that gambles with their future benefits, then GWB is their man. I'll take my benefits in the Gore-Lieberman lock box, thank you.

Question:

What is the earliest age that I can begin receiving retirement benefits?

Answer:

The earliest age at which you can begin getting Social Security retirement benefits is 62.

Recent changes in the law affect the age for full retirement benefits, but do not affect the minimum age for retirement, still age 62. You will receive a reduced benefit if you elect benefits prior to your full retirement age.

For details on the amount of this reduction, see ssa.gov

The earliest age at which you can be entitled to Medicare is 65. (You can be entitled to Medicare at an earlier age only if you are entitled to Social Security disability benefits.)

For more information on the increase in the full retirement age, see ssa.gov
