Avanex Corporation (ticker: AVNX, exchange: NASDAQ) News Release - 24-Oct-2000

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Avanex Plans Another Major Facilities Expansion in Fremont

FREMONT, Calif., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ --

Avanex Corporation (Nasdaq: AVNX), the global provider of photonic processors that enable next generation performance for optical communications networks, will lease an additional 110,000 square feet of manufacturing and headquarters office space in the Fremont area in an effort to keep pace with customer demand, the company announced today.

The two new buildings, located in the Stevenson Point Technology Park less than a mile from the Avanex headquarters, are expected to be occupied and operational in the first quarter of calendar year 2001.

The most recent expansion plan comes close on the heels of Avanex's mid-summer move into an additional 91,000 square feet adjacent to its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Fremont. That expansion nearly tripled the size of the company's corporate offices and manufacturing space.

With the expansion announced today, Avanex facilities in the Fremont area will occupy approximately 255,000 square feet, nearly five times the level of a year ago and 14 times the level of 18 months ago.

"The expansion numbers really need no elaboration," Walter Alessandrini, president and CEO of Avanex, said. "They are literally concrete evidence of the market success of our photonic processor solutions. This major expansion is another example of our commitment to plan prudently and thoroughly and execute flawlessly in order to meet our growing commitments to our current and future customers."

In addition to the expansions in Fremont, Avanex is expanding its Photonics Center at a new location in Richardson, Texas. The company will occupy approximately three times more space in the new Richardson facility than the current site. The company also announced recently that it has moved past the 1,000-employee mark, which represents a more than twenty-fold increase in its workforce in less than 18 months.

Come on stop being so mean to people you do not even know. Avanex is a great company. And the stock may hit 150 in two week or 70. But I feel as an investor that before the next great bull run begins the over valuation must be taken out of these stocks. This means the small guy must be scared to invest. This is when you know that it is a good time to invest. These rallies the nasdaq has are very weak. We may get another one soon but it won't break higher than 4000. We may easily see avanex at 70 or 80 as a bottom, but bottoms always hit twice before a run. 55 was hit once so far. It will hit again. Don't ever eush into a fast quick buck to make money. Make sound secure investments. This is why the rich stay rich and the rich sometimes become poor.
