Hi Merry, I may sound light hearted but am actually quite concerned about the state of the market place. My friends who had previously insisted that all is well, that there will be no panic, is now psychologically buffering themselves by saying that if there is a panic sell-off, it will only cause a short breakdown before we once again reach for the skies. Well, I would like to avoid the hard landing and the interim void altogether if at all possible, if the panic break happens. I am following 9984 but not 648 but I think there actually has been no material release of 648 shares into the market … yet. I think the 648 management thinks they are getting ready with hands on the ejection button. The price is now pitifully low and if anyone thumbs down on the ejection button, they will do a hard landing on the accounting ledger. Given that I believe it is my job to time the market, however unsuccessfully, I am at 11% equity, spread around in 5.HK, 9984.JP, SNE, AOL, CHL, CMCSK, NEM, SWC, MO, and a bunch of meaningless residual and staring positions and yes, a bunch of LU puts shorts, obligating me to buy LU at $40. Ouch. I may buy some stocks back in the next week or two for the sole purpose of financing some Christmas and Chinese New Year presents (January 24-26) and not for anyone’s college tuition a generation later. YHOO, MSFT may be good if NASDAQ goes to 2800. I will add some PCCW, having bought one fourth of what I wanted at 8 something. It is a bet, as any other.
