Not sure what you mean about Philistines.

If we are to believe the scriptures, the Israelites, hardly possessors of a Godless ideology, slaughtered the Philistines man, woman, and child; as thorough a case of genocide as one might find anywhere.

I take no position on the "church vs. Nazis" debate; I don't know enough to have an opinion. I do think that the notion that God-fearing people could not commit genocide is insupportable. If God-fearing people can be convinced, as they all too often are, that God is in favor of their enterprise, they will smite and slay whoever their leaders tell them to smite and slay, and do it with a right good will.

I think that says the Inquisition wasn't so bad, and followed the rules closely, and was essentially an inquiry.

I'm perfectly willing to accept that the torture and killing were of hundreds and not thousands.

I'm perfectly willing to accept that Protestants were involved as well as Catholics. They didn't mention atheists, I'm relieved to note, what with the Church-advertised propensity of atheists to commit barbarous acts.
