. It is more effective than condoms or diaphragms, and far cheaper and less harmful than birth control pills or depo-provera.

Hooey. Maybe if you don't live in a culture where you are expected to service your man and be subservient to HIS wishes (note the following don't make reference to when it is convenient):

1 Corinthians 7: 3
The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.

1 Corinthians 14: 35
If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

And "rhythm method" in the hands of the user it is not very effective. The above biblical verse justifies sex on demand and the husband's interpretation of scripture.

The diaphragm is 100% effective for proper use. It is only in the hands of unskilled people that it's effectiveness drops. As a couple we used this method for 8 year and no little darlings appeared until 11 months after we stopped. I suppose the same is true for fertility timing, but to a much lower absolute degree. In uneducated, impoverished people, I doubt anything is as easy as Depo-provera subcutaneous implants.

The Billings method .... It is more effective than condoms or diaphragms
More effective at starting the next generation of little catholics maybe. This method must be coupled with near abstinence to be effective, and so fails in real life.

<<>>The Billings method, which the Church approves, involves
monitoring and charting basal temperature and cervical mucus.>>

Temperature? You mean they need thermometers?

Charts? You mean they have to be able to read and write?

Ever been to rural Africa?

Ever lived in a culture where the woman isn't allowed to say no? Where marital rape doesn't exist as a concept?

Depo Provera is often the method of choice for a woman, wherever she lives, who must keep the fact that she is trying not to get pregnant from a husband who insists she have as many babies as possible.

IMO, the concept "birth control" is civilized. The concept "artificial birth control" is obscene.
