Yep ... Bush qualified as a shooter for border defense (fighter pilot) against Cuba, while Gore trained to shoot pictures in Nam.

Bush served as a part-time trigger-puller; Gore served as a full-time REMF.

I was on active duty during Desert Storm, but I was in Korea. I guess by your logic I *dodged* the desert. When I left active duty (92), the TNG was so full they couldn't take me. After two years of Clinton/Gore/Richards, the 49th G-1 - in person - tried to recruit me to fill a shortage. By that time, I had another life and turned it down. I've still kept my reserve commission as an Armor officer (and an active interest in military affairs) in case they *really* need me.
