>they reported lower prices and jeff got a better deal. the retailer? their profit on that item was probably cut by around 50%.
Sb, I did the same on a DVD. But, what you and I are missing is Amzn's so called brand loyalty. And don't forget the convenience and the community experience they also enjoy.
The Amazon believers truly believe that most of its shoppers won't comparative shop.
So what I'm thinking is Amazons 20 mil shoppers are very wealthy, fiercely loyal, and not as cheap as Jeff, SB, or HJ.:-)
Btw
How can you comparative shop when Amzn is the only e-tailer LEFT!

gdr, this is a powerful network and amzn CAN'T compete with this level of service under their
current structure. this is also the proper use of the net, imho. it should marginally add
business, not revolutionize it for business. the net has smacked businesses as investor
knowledge has increased - just as i hypothesized 3 years ago.

Skeeter,

You were and are correct. I also placed my store on-line for that reason. Margins in my business are falling so we need more revenue but must generate it without a lot of expense. This will continue and only the bright and innovative retailers will do well. My opinion is still dual channel. Brick and mortar and on-line. Match a price of a competitor if necessary and most importantly, be efficient.

There is a side here that helps both the consumer and the retailer. At one time, my only way to reach my customer about a new product, special pricing, etc. was pring, direct snail mail, radio, TV and billboard. All these are costly. As the list of people increases that sign up for our email list, we can reach them at almost no additional cost and be far more efficient.

I do have to grin here. No one in my market area is really doing this.

Glenn
