Clearly with the data stream of rumor has most, including me, watchful. Probably more than usual. It get fraying after a while. CNBC reports that 130/208 triple digit session so far this year. In 1999, there were 10. Talk about volatile!! As for the rumor, while I heard it on CNBC, this was the write up, which I also read: _________ 15:09 ET Nortel Networks (NT) 44 3/4 -5/8: Rumors made the rounds on trading floors that company was calling analysts and guiding numbers lower; this appears to have been untrue (and now illegal as well). Also rumors that Goldman was cutting numbers; but Goldman denies this. It appears that the rumors might have stemmed from estimate reductions at Dresdner which simply reflect Tuesday's disappointing report. Steve
