Are my children morally responsible to me, or am I morally responsible to them?

I agree that it is both. That is how I try to address issues of respect and responsibility. How would your friends react to you if you talked to them the way you just talked to me? Do you think there is some other place on the planet where your actions are tolerated and you are STILL treated well despite major hostility?

I finally stopped yelling at my kids because they just shut down. I try to persuade and in the failure of that, I start delivering consequences that tie to specific acts and behaviors. People tell me that our kids are very well behaved (I don't see this very much - go figure!) but, if they are going to act out, I'd prefer it was with me so at least I can give them a lecture or a dose on the consequences of living with people that you piss off. The fact that they can rebel against me and not start a nuclear exchange (new meaning to the nuclear family??) is probably good.

God should probably change his approach if it doesn't work. I'm not an atheist, BTW. I see no evidence for the Gods that are presented to us by Western Civilization. Maybe something closer to the Buddhists, though I'm not one of those either, really.
