It hasn't "decimated" it, but has had an effect...
I've noticed it in the Northeast, the Mercedes dealers no longer have waiting list for certain cars. Houses are not being sold for higher than list as they were a few years ago, things like that.

Another thought...America currently has the lowest savings rate that there has been in years... Since the majority of the average Americans wealth is in their 401k, IRA or retirement accounts, I think the effect is minimal since most people view these holdings for the long term and these $$$$ do not affect their current consumer spending.

I also don't think the fed is going to ease soon...I think it will take some kind of crisis for that to happen.
