<<Caution, P4 Rumor Inside...

Posted by doubleD on Saturday, 28 October 2000, at 6:34 a.m.

Word has it (keep in mind that this is very preliminary information) that there MAY be a couple more issues with the P4 which may delay its launch.

The public has been told that there was a problem with the P4 chipset not working with certain PCI graphics cards.

There is now some talk of some systems (more than a few, less than alot) failing to POST. Reason unknown.
There is also a nice story of one system nearly catching fire.

This is third-hand information, but my source is reliable. So there is probably at least a kernel of truth in here>>

Oh well, we'll see...Paul said Intel has NEVER given an official P4 release date. Only Q4...

Paul,

The fact that AMD had to UP THE JUNCTION TEMPERATURE to 95 C is because the 1.2 GHz ThumperBurn WILL RUN HOTTER - aND APPROACH 95 C.

It means that AMD has been doing speed work, and now have more margin on Athlons. More bad news for Intel.

<The fact that AMD had to UP THE JUNCTION TEMPERATURE to 95 C is because the 1.2 GHz ThumperBurn WILL RUN HOTTER - aND APPROACH 95 C. AMD is just running flat out BURN SPEEDS - at a real risc to long term reliability.>

I vote to ban Paul permanently from the thread.
As a PhD in chemistry and former chip packaging
specialist at Intel, he must know for sure that
a chip does not need to run at top specified
temperature, that any bigger/better heat sink
could low the chip temperature to any value
you want, and the chip just will have more
speed room and stability margins.

His statement is outrageously ridiculous and false.
Either he is trying to intentionally mislead
the thread, or he has retarded beyond the sanity
level. In both cases he is useless and has to
leave.

Paul,

re:AMD is just running flat out BURN SPEEDS - at a real risc to long term reliability.

Go sell it to someone who might buy it Paul.

You're embarrassing yourself.

I'll take a CPU engine that is capable of operating at 95C over the piece of junk that melts at 65C.

Try the Intel thread; they lap up everything you feed them over there.
