Jim, Mardy,

Boy, do I feel in over my head, discussing this issue with the likes of you two.

I asked that question of Howard because I felt disappointed he did not ask a question that is financially relevant to me as an investor in Wi-Lan. For example,I don't care if OFDM becomes a global standard, not unless its WOFDM. In fact we all know that pure OFDM has inherent problems and that it will be some variant(s) that will become the standard.

Now I realize that when Wi-Lan and Philips started an OFDM Alliance, they had to give it as broad an appeal as possible. You can't sell a Honda Civic to someone who doesn't want to buy a car. But the times are changing; Motorola switched to the OFDM Forum because it's thinking is moving to the 802.11a standard. (I'm borrowing from G Worth for this information).

As the following article suggests, two OFDM camps are emerging, one of which is comfortable with 802.11a and HyperLan 2. Wi-Lan claims to have the patent for their implementation and I would like to know if other companies in that Forum are prepared to agree with that.
