Something was going on around that time unless you are saying the Pentium 4 wasn't delayed at all? The details may have been reported incorrectly, however. I wasn't the only one saying it. YOU posted this:

Well, the rumor is definitely spreading like wildfire. From Ace's ( aceshardware.com ):

Pentium IV in Trouble? (INTEL)
Posted By Johan

Sources of ours told us today that Intel seems to be experiencing problems with the trace-cache in Intel's upcoming Pentium IV. The CPU taped out last month (November '99), 5 months later than planned.

Intel's 7th generation CPU seems to be reaching very low clock-speeds at this point in time. On top of that, Intel's engineers still have to sort out a lot of bugs. The Pentium IV does not seem to work properly right now ("they still don't have enough bugs out of it to sample it").

Our sources at Intel did not want to comment on this rumour, but they admitted that "Pentium IV is an extremely advanced design but is unfortunately not on schedule". I personally hope Intel engineers will sort it out on time, because it would unbelievably interesting to compare the Pentium IV and the Athlon Mustang clock for clock and see what technically makes them better or worse than their competitor (I am drooling here).
