TP-- Very large carriers are paying lots of attention to
port density and scalability. When they invest into a gear
they what to be sure that it has capability to scale going
forward.
There is no questions that from now carriers will try to maximize use of existing networks.
Fiber to the neighborhood and then xDSL to home is the next step, possible VDSL will
very important.
LMDS or fixed wireless in general can provide cheaply good amount of bandwidth, and when fiber arrive, equipment can be shifted to another part of the network.
New carriers with money constrains so far like LMDS for above reasons.
Specially that in the case of some vandors that some gears can be and is used for xDSL and LMDS.
