Bush is best
--------
All of this has considerable consequences for Britain.
At the simple level of personalities, a Bush victory
would destabilise the New Labour leadership, who
psychologically set much store by links with the
Clinton-Gore team. Even after the end of the Cold War,
America can still alter the mood music in Britain more
than any other foreign country.

A victory for Mr Bush would signal that the world's sole
superpower has opted for a man who believes the size
of the state should be reduced, over a man who
believes the power of the state should be enhanced. It
would further highlight the choice Britain must make
between the North American free market model and the
neo-Colbertine system of continental Europe. Mr Bush
will do what a president should - preside benignly over
this extraordinary prosperity. He will be good for
America, and for the world.

Promote the "dumb" theme as much as you want, but Bush never flunked out of a college as Gore did and you don't get to be a jet fighter pilot by being a dummy.

jet fighter pilot? What are you talking about? Does the Texas National Guard have an air force?

There's a distinction to be made between social intelligence, charm, and political skills, which Bush clearly has, and being well informed, intellectually curious, and interested in government. He has given no signs of the latter. My worry is not that he's dumb, but that he is ignorant of many things that a President needs to know. Such as the main forces reshaping the rest of the world.
