Andreas, Re: . AMD 760 won't ship in significant volume this quarter and this is yet another missed opportunity.

I don't think AMD really *wants* to ship the 760 in big volume, ever. Well, maybe temporarily in the beginning of Q1.

They want ALi or VIA, or whoever, to handle the chipset stuff.

But they needed a platform out there sooner, to counteract P4 PR. Something they can say is "released" that they can drop a faster Tbird (or Mustang) into, demonstrating benchmark parity or superiority. The P4 won't ship in significant volume this Q either.

Not sure what opportunity has really been missed... 760 revenues (themselves) are trivial. I doubt this will impact CPU sales, assuming AMD judges the 266 FSB CPU demand accurately. (presumably this sort of thing (multiplier and bus speed) can be set late in the process)

If there were a flood of 760 boards available now, would there be enough PC 2100 memory to go around? Even if so, would demand be high enough? You or I might buy the parts and put one together, but I don't think the big OEMs would be switching box designs in the middle of Q4.
