WIND--Wind River and Galileo Technology Create Complete Solution for the Development of High-Performance Ethernet Switches
Tornado for Managed Switches 2.0 Now Supports GalNet®-2+ Ethernet Switch Chips
ALAMEDA and SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 31, 2000-- Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND - news) and Galileo Technology (Nasdaq:GALT - news) today announced that Tornado® for Managed Switches (TMS) 2.0, the industry's only complete, integrated software solution for advanced data networking equipment, now supports Galileo Technology's market-leading Fast/Gigabit Ethernet GalNet-2+ switch chip family. Networking OEMs now have a complete, out-of-the-box solution they can use to quickly develop high-performance Ethernet switches for sophisticated applications such as Internet telephony (``Voice over IP'' or VoIP) and video conferencing.

TMS 2.0 provides networking manufacturers with a standard set of network management software components, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.1p and 802.1Q protocols that enable VoIP, quality of service (QoS), and virtual local area networks (VLANs). It dramatically reduces product development cycles and speeds the time to market for leadership Ethernet switches and routers, a worldwide market that is expected to exceed $12 billion this year, according to the Dell'Oro Group.

Galileo's GalNet-2+ family of switched Ethernet controllers provides the industry's highest-density hardware solution for Fast and Gigabit Ethernet Layer 2 switches with Layer 3 features such as QoS and IP Multicast. As demonstrated in Galileo's recently introduced RD-GalStack reference design, GalNet-2+ supports a 48+2 switch configuration in a 1U (1 3/4``) rack mount enclosure with full-wire-speed performance. With TMS 2.0 software and GalNet-2+ Ethernet switch chips, networking OEMs can vastly reduce the amount of time they spend on product integration for high-performance Ethernet switch products delivered to the market quickly.

``Networking OEMs face demands for greater product functionality but within shorter development timeframes,'' said Dave Fraser, vice president and general manager of Wind River's Networks business unit. ``By offering our software solutions on leading switch IC solutions such as Galileo's, and by supplying a higher percentage of the end solution, Wind River has helped networking OEMs reduce development time by as much as two years.''

``The GalNet-2+ switch chip family provides OEMs with a high-performance solution that offers advanced levels of quality of service, security and scalability,'' said Moshe Steiner, vice president of Galileo's switching products group. ``We partnered with Wind River because our product combination provides our customers with the fastest time-to-market solution for best-of-breed Ethernet switch products.''

Availability

TMS 2.0 will be available for the GalNet-2+ Ethernet switch family in December, 2000.
