As a business owner, it doesn't distress me one bit....It is the system that is distressing. The democraps don't want to fix it....they just play with the current and propose yet more complexity and inequities to it.

BTW, a progressive tax code is not a fair system.

flapjack, you are hitting on one of the reasons it is so important to get Republican control. Over the 40 years the democrats controlled congress the tax code became a monster. Over 10000 pages of rules, policies, etc.. Even CPA's I know have to do substantial research when any return has any degree of complication. Something is wrong when a reasonably intelligent person has to hire someone to do their tax return. The congress and administrations have manipulated the code to do "favors" for this group or that group. They have also done what you are seeing, right now before your eyes, with Gore. He is further complicating and playing with the way we are all taxed. There will be thousands of hours spent in seminars trying to decipher what his new rules, policies, breaks, etc. are and how to convert them to a tax return. Also, he isn't treating all Americans fairly. He is controlling by saying, "if you do as I say, and you have exactly the right set of circumstance then I will give you a break." I don't mind, and in fact want to pay my fair share. However, I don't feel comfortable or like to feel that I am being taxed excessively because I don't fit the mold Gore wants to assist. I believe all (most) Americans are comfortable paying a fair share. Gore and Clinton are not fair. They, and their democratic colleagues in congress, manipulate the tax code to be punitive to the working families. How can they, with a straight face, deny fairness to married couples? Why would they want to benefit two singles living in sin by allowing them to pay less tax than another couple living next door pay because they are married? Why do they want to perpetuate a death tax that brings in around 1% of revenue and is a confiscatory tax of around 55% of the estate? And, everything in that estate has already been taxed once. Why does a family have to liquidate a business or family farm to accomodate the taxes? Also, it is an absolute punitive tax because there have been studies that say the cost of administering the tax by the IRS just about eat up all the revenues received. These are all Clinton Gore type agendas along with their democratic liberal cohorts in the congress. it is time for a change. A change to simple fairness for EVERY American. Then away can go class envy and warfare. We take care of our people who are truly needy. Then a SIMPLE tax code that taxes fairly. I would prefer a consumption tax with no tax forms to be filled out. Of course again, some rebate on the early dollars up to some reasonable level so that the working poor and welfare would pay no or low taxes. Or, a flat tax with minimal or no deductions. Again with a safety net on the low dollars so that the working poor or folks not earning would not be hurt. The tax is automatically progressive in either instance in that on consumption you have to have the money to spend more and therefore to be taxed more. On the flat tax the tax is on each dollar earned without deductions so high earners pay far more in income taxes than lower earning taxpayers.

I say eliminate the corporate income tax. It merely adds to the cost of business, and therefore the costs of products. Individuals pay taxes on dividends and capital gains, employees pay income tax on wages and salaries, people pay sales taxes on goods and services, companies pay property taxes on real estate. Enough is enough........
