<<I am sure faith based are the most effective. The biggest doper I ever knew went straight to Jesus and became a crusader- it got him off dope, but he became every bit as into Jesus as he'd been into dope. Now you can see that as an improvement if you want, I personally think he was far less annoying on dope. I wish people could rationally get themselves better, if they can't so be it- but it disappoints me.>>

While I agree religion is a drug to many & a dangerous drug for some, but I would rather have most religious people living next door me than one shoving a needle in their arm. For a great many, it is some form of Faith or the bottle or needle - nothing between will do. Which is better for the economy, the family, the nation, the community, the business? We both know the answer.

but he became every bit as into Jesus as he'd been into dope.

Who cares? I certainly don't see the harm in that.

Everyone needs an "crutch" that eases their mind in troubled moments. Rather than finding that relief in a bottle or crack pipe, I would rather have them crack open the good book, or even the Koran, and learn some self-responsibility.

Religion may be the opiate of the masses, X, but at least you don't find many of these people sleeping in alleys working off a major drug trips, or hangovers.

And the consequences of such an addiction is pretty positive as well, namely love for one another, and sense of place in this world.

Instinctively, mankind has always looked for his Raison D'Etre. We see evidence of belief in the supernatural extending back to primitive times, as well as in current primitive tribes in the Amazon and Africa.

The fact that you claim to be an agnostic, rather than an atheist, is proof that even you sense something greater than ourselves, but you just don't know what it is.

Sorry to get so personal with you there.. but you're sounding a lot like my mother (she's agnostic as well).... <VBG>

Btw, as a christian (pure as the driven slush.. :0), I also despise the "holier than thou" attitudes presented by many evangelicals and "moral majority" types.

Jesus was a doctor of souls.. and he emphasized numerous times that to heal the spiritually sick, he needed to mix among them.

Regards,

Ron
