I think Nader would be better than either Bush or Gore when it comes to eliminating the underground economy. Dumping the costly and failed Drug War would be a great place to start, helping to cure a half-a-dozen or more of society's major illnesses, including the underground economy.

But how can you support Bush's plan which would leave the underground economy intact, while also beefing up the rich? Sorta seems unfair, don't it? Under Bush's scenario, everybody but the 'bad' guys lose.

How would a consumption tax stop illegal activity? Do you think drug dealers and hookers would collect and pay the taxes on their sales? If the politicians ever got a consumption tax enacted, they would just re-enact the income tax later when they wanted to spend more. It's a farce. I think a flat tax with very limited deductions would be the most simple way to go.knc
