I remember talking to Sully at Semicon 98 and I thought he told me they were getting about 1.2MM for 8" pullers from MEMC then. I do have a pretty solid recollection of the 2-3MM price tag as that came from him as MEMC was approaching the "bake off" where they wanted to compare side by side the Leybold, FERO and one other puller in fall 98. They got the Leybold, but nobody else wanted to play.

Anyway, I didn't do the simple math and you're right. At 2.5MM a puller (to be generous) and all the associated polishing equipment, we're easily taking 300-400MM as the price of entry to be a player. Not for the faint of heart!
