"Apparently AMD may accelerate their Hammer series"

How they will accelerate it when it hasn't taped out yet is beyond me, but I will point out that now they are talking about 0.18 micron Hammers.

"Also there is word of a possible glitch with the VIA KT133 chipset and Duron processors. Apparently there is a glitch the requires the motherboard maker to add components to the board to bypass this problem. VIA is reportedly working on a fix. I'll try to confirm or dispel this to the best of my ability."

Weird - I'm inclined to dismiss these rumors, but since no one here had posted about it I thought I'd put it up for discussion."

I have a Duron 600 on a KT-133 board (an asus to be exact) and have had no problems whatsoever.. other then the occasional freezeup i attribute more to Windows ME. I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

cds, Re: "a possible glitch with the VIA KT133 chipset and Duron processors"

Is this for the current Durons or the Mustang core "Durons," whichever pony this is? I hope we get some clarification on this rumor.

CS, Re: Also there is word of a possible glitch with the VIA KT133 chipset and Duron processors.

Over 2 million sold Durons and no one ever noticed it? If there's a bug it's either a known one (like AGP issues with Win2k) or a very minor one. That VIA chipsets (also for P3) have their "issues" is nothing new...

But that Mustang plan does make sense if AMD didn't find customers willing to sell workstations or servers with the CPU. Palomino (with 512kb 2nd level cache?) would still be a very good solution, especially in a dual configuration.

Even if true, it sounds like a very minor issue. The fix to the problem clearly indicates to me that its of an electrical type than logical type, and mobo manufacturers can fix the glitches by using some additional passive components. Via obviously is trying to take care of it on the chip so the mobo manufacturers can eliminate the use of the additional components.
