Jim,

I guess the e-mail is a confirmation that Jim's conspiracy theory was correct.

Stribe, you are to be commended for following up on this...

From Anands E-mail...

RE:"Thanks for the email. I've already seen SPEC benchmarks for the Pentium 4, and yes it does very well, but does that mean that I should ditch the benchmark? I don't think so. I received overwhelming request to expand our benchmark suite to include more than just what we had been doing, and thus I included Linpack and SPEC CPU2000 so I could provide better analysis."

I wonder just who provided that overwhelming request?
IMHO, These sites use too many benchmarks already.

RE:"When the Pentium 4 arrives you'll see an even more in-depth analysis than what you saw in the DDR review. I will be fair as I have been in the past and take a look at *why* the platforms/processors are performing the way they do"

Do you think people will look much past the bar chart? That's likely all they will remember. At best they will say P4 wins this many benchmarks and Mustang this many. Intel knows this...enter some more P4 favorable benchmarks.

RE:In the end the addition of SPEC numbers is better for the reviews as a whole, I was sick of just spitting out a bunch of benchmarks without actually getting any information from them. With SPEC, I can show where these numbers are coming from and illustrate future performance trends"

I didn't realize how sick Anand was...poor fellow.
Actually I was already put to sleep by all benchmarks he was already using.
I wonder who helped "convinced" Anand of that? When we see SPEC all over the Intel site we will get an idea...if we don't I was wrong.

RE:"If all I gave was the final SPEC number with no analysis, then yes, I can see the poster's point, however that's not going to be the case. The point is to provide the reader with as much information as possible so that
he/she can make a very educated decision, that's what I'm attempting to do here and that's what I've always pushed to do in the past"

This sounds good but also like an apology. We shall see...
OTOH, starting yesterday, the Intel PR machine has kicked it up a couple notches.

Anand RE:"I've already seen SPEC benchmarks for the Pentium 4, and yes it does very well, but does that mean that I should ditch the benchmark? I don't think so. "

You can be sure of one thing: the most favorable result for the P4 will be on the first pages. Then there are so many pages after, peoples won't look at them.
