Zeev,

Agreed.

I think the supply-demand balance for flash is a moving target and we need to pay close attention to updated estimates.

Recall that SanDisk backed off on further expansion of production in Taiwan (there was discussion of a non-UMC fab being approached for this) now that an agreement with Hitachi has been struck which includes a guaranteed flash supply if SanDisk opts for it (Eli was very excited about this during the c.c.). By mid-year the situation at Dominion will be clearer as well. Toshiba seems to be making great strides based on Binx' update yesterday. This can only mean good things for the Manassas project.

I am happy that Sharp is looking to UMC for help with flash fabrication. When SanDisk licensees are busy it means more potential licensing revenues.

Still hoping this Lexar thing gets settled out of court. Time is running short here as the trial begins Monday.

Zeev,
You have to be careful about generalizing about "flash". Embedded flash is different from flash cards, and high density and low density flash are different from each other, used in different applications. Important to distinguish all of them to get an accurate read of the market.

However, Wall Street will undoubtedly do the usual thing, and lump them all together whatever the reality may be, which is always much more difficult to assess. Free space at TSM (I assume that that is who you mean by "TMSC) should be good news for SSTI. It is irrelevant for Sandisk's CF, MMC and SDMC, though, as is AMD, INTC, and most others' expansion of flash capacity, as they don't make the cards that Sandisk makes its money on. Hitachi, Toshiba and Samsung are the ones to watch for that, as well as any progress on memory stick and Smartmedia.
