Totally off topic (oddly): Global Networking (a timeline). ciolek.com --- It makes no mention of the significant contribution Lemurians have made to networking over the last 50,000+ years, but is nonetheless an interesting timeline. -JCJ

Hi Chitral,

Security is not regulated by the government, thank goodness.
However, there are laws protecting innocent users from hackers. Some laws enforced by the SEC (fraudulent stock manipulation schemes) also apply to the internet. These are criminal statutes. Nothing wrong with that.

Laws like that help the computer industry. Laws that tax the internet (for example), however, hurt the industry. Laws that protect privacy help the industry. Laws that restrict free speech hurt the industry.

I want an administration in DC that understands the difference and will help the computer industry to grow, mostly by keeping their hands off. From what I've heard by listening to the 2 presidential candidates, Bush is the one who will deliver.

JMHO.
